gumi Featured Employee: Marian Schneiderheinze

Happy Thursday!

In this segment, we proudly showcase our employees who are currently working with us in our Singapore, Philippines & Indonesia offices. You will get to learn more about gumi, the working environment and even hear some priceless stories on how gumi Asia got its start.

This week, let’s say hello to Marian Schneiderheinze, Quality Assurance Tester for gumi Asia. She makes sure that the games we make come out as bug-free as possible. It’s a thankless job, but someone needs the conviction for it. She originally hails from Singapore in the Bukit Timah area.

Where do you usually like to hang around after work?

I usually spend more time at home than outside. I sometimes invite my friends over to my place; I love my own place a lot.

What are your favourite video games so far?

Hmm.. it’s definitely World of Warcraft. I love it because of the epic raids and co-ordinating strategies with my guild and teammates to tackle them.

The Genso Suikoden series is also one of my favorite game series; I’ve been playing the second game since I was young and finished it about 20 times. I like to get every single item and every single character in this vast RPG.

What is your greatest accomplishment at gumi?

I have accomplished nothing at gumi (laughs). In all seriousness, it was launching my first game. It felt f******* great!

What’s your favourite place for lunch?

My mom’s cooking is the best! But if I had to go out and eat, I love to go to Wild Honey at Mandarin and Scotts Road. It has sweet stuff, and I love sweets!

Please tell us a little known fact about you.

I was pretty good at football and basketball. I was very rough; I elbowed a guy in a face one time in a basketball match.

What is your favorite movie?

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. I like magic and the show’s setting, so the film appeals to me.

What’s the one word you would choose to describe yourself?

Noisy (laughs)!

Why did you choose to join gumi?

It was definitely because of Brave Frontier. It was the “in thing” at the time.

What’s the best thing about working here so far?

The freedom. I enjoyed my time here because I get a lot of freedom and flexibility in the QA field.

Which country would you love to travel to and why?

Everywhere: I love traveling! Though if I had to pick one, it’ll be Canada. I like the snow, and the people are nice there.

What’s the most interesting part of your job?

QA is friggin’ fun. You get to see funny shit people leave behind in their games. I love finding bugs, especially the funny ones.

What’s the most played track on your Music Playlist at the moment?

“Theme of Moonlit Night” from Suikoden 2. It’s my brother’s nostalgic sleeping music; but it’s my favourite tune because it’s calm and soothing.
